Evila

La sirène Evila

The bronze statue entitled “Evila” is the work of Belgium sculptor Marie-José Aerts.  It depicts a mermaid diving into the River Oise with Cohue Island and the Cabouillet Bridge lending themselves as a beautiful background to the work.

She is used as a reference point when the level of water rises in the River Oise. The idea for the statue came from Michel Poniatowski, former deputy mayor and government minister, who requested a statue inspired by Edvard Eriksen’s “The Little Mermaid” in Copenhagen.

“Evila” was inaugurated in summer 1990 in the presence of the sculptor and the Danish Ambassador.
